NPR featured her side-by-side with Dolly Parton in its 51 Percent podcast, calling her song “Molly” a modern day “Jolene”. Medleyville.us wrote her debut album For Whom They Singwas “on par with recent efforts by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson”. Now Sarah McGowan introduces a new sound, darker and edgier than her previous folk pop tunes. With her newly released “Riding in Cars With Men”, an indie/dream pop song, Sarah has set her sights on a younger market.
A prolific songwriter, Sarah’s songs have been featured on ABC’s Mistresses, a trailer for CBC’s Hello Goodbye, and the PGA Tour in Canada. Sarah’s music has been featured in The Huffington Post, Pop Matters, Diffuser.fm, and Elmore Magazine. Noisetrade introduced her as a “New + Notable Artist” in March 2015 and featured For Whom They Sing in February 2016.
Also a trained music producer/engineer, Sarah studied under producer J Chris Griffin (Janet Jackson, Kelly Clarkson) at Engine Room Audio in New York City. Her knowledge of music production helped her co-produce both her EP and album.
Sarah released her first EP of original songs, Indian Summer, on January 27th, 2015. Her first full length album, For Whom They Sing, was released later that year (December 4th, 2015).
Sarah opened for Lisa Loeb at The Haverford Music Festival in Havertown, PA in 2016 and performed at CMJ in 2014. She continues to regularly play NYC venues such as Mercury Lounge, Pianos, and Arlene’s Grocery.
She is currently writing and recording her second EP, to be released in late 2017.
