BIO:
Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Geoff Hamm is a country and western singer/songwriter who strives for a modern sound without compromising form. He also throws a strong nod to the R&B music he reveres - Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, etc... Putting Oklahoma in the rear view after graduation, he headed west to California. In the absence of the roots music he was raised around, his passion for it was reignited. "I had to leave Oklahoma to realize that I loved it unconditionally" said Hamm. The "Tulsa Sound" became immediately important - an effortless blend of country, rock and soul. He then traveled from California back to Oklahoma, finally landing in Austin, TX where he began to conceptualize a career in music. In early 2015, he moved to Nashville to fully immerse himself in the songwriting scene.
His biggest influences have one thing in common: a modest face which masks an intricate body of work. For instance, Willie Nelson. "I've always respected Willie's ability to maintain this element of modesty while simultaneously communicating these very advanced musical ideas" said Hamm on Willie Nelson's Western swing and gypsy jazz-inspired compositions. In addition to Nelson, Hamm is heavily influenced by the musical stylings of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, The Allman Brothers Band, Leon Russell, and Elton John. "Ironically, my favorite 'country' album is from across the Atlantic - Tumbleweed Connection by Elton John. It has this lyrical genuineness (a shoutout to Bernie Taupin), but it also has this outsider perspective which feels perpetually fresh. Being new and real - that's always my goal musically. In the grand scheme of things, most artists would rather have a Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in their arsenal, but I'd take a Tumbleweed Connection any day."
