BIO:
Emily Roig is a soulful, indie-pop singer-songwriter based out of Nashville, Tennessee. She has released several albums and songs, including her most recent single “Skin” inspired by the Michael Brown shooting that took place in her hometown of St. Louis. Emily is influenced by the raw vocals of artists like Joni Mitchell and Florence Welch, the playful pop of Ingrid Michaelson, and the soulful sounds found in church music.

Though many artists head to musical meccas like Nashville to chase their dreams, most of those artists continue to be shaped and inspired, in some way, by their hometowns. East Nashville resident and St. Louis native Emily Roig is no exception.

The soulful, indie-pop singer-songwriter was both disturbed and motivated to action by the events that took place in Ferguson, Missouri, in August of 2014. The following summer, she released the song “Skin” as an honest cry for racial reconciliation, an attempt to make sense of the long and messy history of racial injustice and oppression, and Emily’s own admittance that she has played a role in this history and the prolonging of oppression.

Throughout her childhood and adolescence in St. Louis, Emily was immersed in music and started writing songs at the ripe age of eight. Her natural-born gifts paired with an earnest determination to learn, moving from piano lessons at age six to drum kit at age ten to classical trumpet through her teenage years. But when she picked up her father’s acoustic guitar she finally found the instrument that completed every melody swirling in her imagination.

Eventually, Emily found her way into the studio and has released several albums and songs, including “Skin” and “Go,” which was inspired by her move to Music City in 2014. Her hometown once again came into play on New Year’s Day 2016, when she had the honor of singing her song “The In-Between” on the Fox 2 Now TV show in St. Louis.

Emily is influenced by the raw vocals of artists like Joni Mitchell and Florence Welch, the playful pop of Ingrid Michaelson, and the soulful sounds found in church music. She has played in venues from Colorado to Maine, and several of her songs have been featured on the Women of Substance Radio and Podcast.

Be sure to experience Emily’s live performances where you will be energized and buoyed by the joy infused in her music.
